Case #15
Hope, Indiana- Private Residence
May 6th, 2006

The owner Steven Caldwell asked Hoosier Paranormal to the residence. He and his family had been experiencing some strange things. Caldwell was only the second owner to have lived there for 20 years. The house was built in the 1954. Back around the summer of 2004 the activity started. TV’s would turn on and off by themselves and something kept adjusting the thermostat. Caldwell tried replacing the old dial thermostat with a new digital one but the same thing continued to happen. It would be set on reading and then they would leave and when they came home it would be turned all the way down. Sometimes they would wake up in the middle of the night and the house be freezing cold because once again the thermostat had been turned all the way down. Caldwell began to think something supernatural might be going on and asked a family member from a local church to bless the house. This quieted things down, for awhile but eventually the activity picked up again.

Investigators present were Shanon, Greg, Kenny, and Robert. It was a chilly night with a 3-qtr moon. All of the normal equipment was used including digital cameras, EMF meters, temperature devices and audio and video recorders.

During the investigation no unusual feelings were experienced by anyone and no noises beyond the normal house settling were heard. No unusual EMF spikes or temperatures were recorded. A total of about 15 hours of video and audio each were recorded.

Findings: We believed that we recorded a good EVP that said “we’re watching you” but this was debunked by a second recording device. It was actually Shanon asking Kenny about his watch. We believe this shows the importance of using multiple voice recorders. No other solid evidence was captured and things seemed quiet this night.

Conclusion: After speaking further with Caldwell we realized that during the time that this was most active there were some family issues going on. Caldwell had started a new business and there were financial concerns. Also Caldwell and his teen-age daughter were going through that rebellious period. There was lots of negative energy in the household at this time. Soon after the business took off, easing the financial concerns and the father-daughter relationship also got better. As some of this negative energy faded away so did the paranormal activity. Hoosier Paranormal is not suggesting that this was a classic poltergeist case but we do believe the overall family situation directly relates to what was occurring. Sometimes spirits are attracted to or feed off of negative energy.

This is a picture taken by Robert. We were doing an investigation in Hope, Indiana. You can see what looks like a fringe around this dust orb.
