Case #19  (19b)
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania- Gettysburg
June 26-30th, 2006

This investigation was conducted by Hoosier Paranormal Research team member Greg Wilson.      The following events are as told by him..

I traveled to Gettysburg Pennsylvania with my wife in June 2006. We visited the
Farnsworth House Inn as our first stop. We decided to take a tour of the house and go on one of the many ghost walks that are available at Gettysburg.

The Farnsworth HouseThe guide led everyone to the attic of the Farnsworth House Inn where he explained the attic was used by snipers during the Civil War. The outside of the Farnsworth House has bullet holes that are very noticeable under the sniper window. The house is made of brick and the window is located in the far right comer of the house under the roof line. We sat on a small bleacher in the attic while the guide told stories about the Civil War.

My wife had felt lightheaded as she sat in the attic, which can be a sign of paranormal activity. She felt like someone had touched her 2 different times while she was in the attic. Both times they touched her on the cheek. The first time this happened she thought it was her imagination but the second time it happened she wondered if it could be one of the spirits. After the second time she was touched on the cheek her lightheadedness went away. The guide told us during our visit to the attic that 14 spirits haunt the Farnsworth house. He said it is very common to smell roses in the house, which is a scent that women used to put on their handkerchiefs, which they put over their noses as they walked through town after the battle to mask the scent of death. He said it is also very common to be touched or have your hair pulled while in the attic. He said this is a spirit of a young boy who lived in the house and he likes to get the attention of females. The guide then walked us to the cellar of the Farnsworth House where we heard stories of strange happenings in the cellar. We did not experience anything unusual in the cellar. We then followed the guide to The Grove on our ghost walk. The night was humid and rainy with no moon. The grove is known to have sounds of axes chopping wood, apparitions appearing out of the woods who are dressed as soldiers some with no shoes. 2 weeks before we visited Gettysburg our guide said he was doing a ghost walk at The Grove and a soldier walked out of the trees towards the group and sat down. The guide started walking towards the apparition and it stood up and walked in the opposite direction and faded away. We did not experience anything at The Grove on this night.

The following day we went to the Battlefield during the day and at night. When you walk on the battlefield you can feel that something important happened here. It is very peaceful and serene. Something you would not expect with all the death that happened here. The battlefield is preserved, as it was when the battle happened all those years ago.
The farms that were there during the Civil War are still on the battlegrounds now owned by the Park Service. The Park Service rents the land to farmers today so the land looks like it did in 1863with cornfields and wheat fields. That night we went to the Reunion Monument to try to capture some EVPS. It was cool and cloudy that night and no one was around the monument. I walked around the monument for about an hour with my voice recorder recording. I recorded an EVP around 10:00PM of a man in distress. The EVP appears to say "
OH NO!"

We went to Devils Den during the day and captured an odd picture (see below). There appears to be what may be a man in the picture. He is standing off in a distance behind a stonewall in the tree line. He is wearing all blue and appears to have no head. The Devils Den area of the battlefield is known to be a hot spot for paranormal activity. We have sent this picture to Coast to Coast AM radio and they have posted it on their website.

Jenny Wade HouseWe also visited the Jenny Wade House and Jenny Wade's grave site. Jenny Wade was the only civilian killed during the battle at Gettysburg in 1863. We took pictures and recordings to see if we could capture any paranormal activity. The Jenny Wade house is listed as one of the top 10 most haunted houses in the United States according to A&E television. We did not experience any unusual events on this day and we did not capture any EVPS.

Gettysburg Pennsylvania is a very nice vacation spot even if you were not hunting ghosts. The history that surrounds this town is monumental. The death that happened here is
unimaginable. Gettysburg offers a very good history lesson for old and young alike.

Gettysburg July 15th-21st, 2007

Going to Gettysburg for the first time was a great experience. The history of this place is all around you. We got to Gettysburg on Sunday the 15th and one of the first things I did was go on Mark Nesbitts Ghost Walk, the tour guide was very informative and told where all the haunted places are. The next thing I did was go on another ghost tour in the Jenny Wade house. The Jenny Wade house is a nice little home that once stood on the outskirts of town. The town has since grown around it and is now very much in town. The tour guide took us to a field beside the school that is reported to have lots of sightings of ghosts. But on this night, we never saw any spirits dancing in the fields.  At the end of the tour, we did go in the basement of the house and the tour guide turned the lights out while he played what he called an E.V.P. But I was not impressed with the scratching noise we heard.

The next day after a tour of the battle field I decided to go on a ghost hunt of my own. As it was getting dark my daughter and I went to the Jenny Wade grave site to do some E.V.P. work. We were there for a few minutes but after reviewing the evidence nothing was heard. Afterwards, we went to the National Cemetery, where the Indiana Union soldiers were laid to rest, and I caught someone talking in the background. It is hard to identify but you can certainly hear a
voice.  After that, we went to the location of "Pickets Charge" where more than six thousand soldiers were killed. By this time, it was completely dark so we decided to walk about a quarter of a mile up the path and back with a recorder in one hand and a camera in the other. We didn't have any strange feelings at that time but after going over the evidence we caught this E.V.P.

Conclusion: I think this place is a wonderful place to come to for a good history lesson and if your lucky maybe you will see or hear a ghost.
