| One of the more famous local
legends is about a supposedly haunted train tunnel in western Jackson
County. Hoosier Paranormal decided it was worth an investigation after
speaking to some eyewitness accounts of activity. The 1750 ft. tunnel
was built around the 1850’s, carved through the side of a
large hill. Legend has it that a man was murdered and then his body
placed inside the tunnel on the tracks to erase any evidence of the
crime. Eyewitnesses have stated that you can see the glow of his lamp
burning inside the tunnel. On the night we did our investigation it was a warm late summer evening. The moon was at about half full. Investigators present were Kenny, Robert, Greg, Shanon, and Randy. It is not an easy place to locate and once there you have a bit of a walk to reach the tunnel. Equipment used included cameras, video, EMF meters, temperature devices and voice recorders. To begin with Robert, Greg, and Shanon walked through the tunnel from one end to another. The walls inside are covered with graffiti, as this obviously is a party hangout for local teens. It is a very creepy and dark place to be and we did record a couple of EMF spikes. Along the sides of the tunnel every 10ft. or so there are recessed places to stand in case of a train passing by. We stood in these cubbyholes and felt an odd presence. I can’t quite explain it but it was strange. Next Kenny and Robert also walked the tunnel but they did not have any experiences. We captured a total of about 6 hrs. of audio and video. Findings: We were unable to capture any evidence of paranormal activity whatsoever. We believe that while this is a creepy place to be that throughout the years the legend and tales have probably grown larger and larger with each generation. On this night we made no contact with any spirit activity. |
