During the month of December of
2006, Hoosier Paranormal traveled to Dresden Ohio to investigate an
historic Greek Revival mansion made famous by being part of the
Underground Railroad during the civil war years
Prospect Place was built in the years between 1856-1857 by George
Adams. The house is now in the process of being restored by the Adams
family descendants. The two most famous stories about the home concern
the bounty hunter in the barn and the mysterious death of Constance Cox.
First, the tale goes that during the late
1850’s a bounty hunter from the south appeared on the
doorstep of the house demanding the rightful return of the slaves.
George Adams refused to do this and a gun battle ensued. Afterwards,
the ranch hands tracked the bounty hunter and abducted him where he was
taken to the family barn and hung from the 3rd floor rafters.
Supposedly, today, the spirit of the dead bounty hunter roams the barn
looking for his revenge.
The second tale is about the tragic death of Constance Cox, a
granddaughter of George Adams. She was a bout 12 when she walked out
onto the upper balcony one winter and slipped and fell to her death.
Because of the frozen ground they could not bury her till Spring and
stored her body in the basement where her spirit supposedly is still
been seen and felt.
The investigation began with a 2 hour walking tour of the property and
the telling off all the ghost stories. Once this was completed we set
up and began the investigation. Equipment used included digital
cameras, infrared cameras, voice recorders, video recorders, and EMF
and temperature devices. Investigators present included Kenny, Shanon,
Greg, Robert, and Melissa.
During the investigation we kept hearing strange noises in the ballroom
and the basement gave a person quite an uneasy feeling. At one point
Shanon, while standing in the room that held Constance body, was asking
some questions and heard some strange knocking noises. Also while
investigating the barn Greg’s camera had the battery
completely drained.
Findings: Hoosier Paranormal had many hours of video and audio but were
unable to record anything that could not be explained.
Debunked: the fluttering of some pigeons caused the noises in the
ballroom. Someone upstairs walking caused the noises that Shanon had
experienced in the basement.
Also Hoosier Paranormal investigated the family plots of the Adams
family at the city cemetery and discovered that the story of Constance
Cox had to be false. She had died as a young girl but in the month of
September not during the winter. There was no record of any early
winters or hard freezes that year.
Conclusion: Hoosier Paranormal recorded no scientific evidence to
believe either Prospect Place is active or haunted by any spirits. It
is a great place to experience though.
