Case  #41
Edinburgh Private Residence
January 3, 2009

The HPR team was contacted by the homeowner to investigate what they believed to be paranormal activity in their home. The claims of activity were; electronic appliances and toys turning on by themselves, seeing the apparition of a small child run from the dining room into the hallway, a bedroom doorknob rattling just as the owner was about to touch it, bottles being thrown down into the shower in the middle of the night, doors opening and closing on their own and shoes being thrown from a closet across the room.

The home is a one story ranch style built in the 1970’s. It was severely damaged in the flood of 2008 and has been undergoing major remodeling. Recently, adult children of the homeowners have also moved into the house. The activity appears to have escalated with the remodel and the new tenants.
The homeowner said that there has also been tension because for a period of some months she was the only one employed. There is also a toddler in the house now who seems to see and interact with something invisible in the hallway.
The team arrived at the home at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Investigators were; Kenny, Greg, Robert, Elisa and Kelly. Equipment used included; 3 Digital Video Cameras set on night vision and placed in hot spot locations throughout the house, 1 hand held Digital Video Camera set on night vision, 7 Digital Voice Recorders placed in various parts of the house and hand held, 1 K2 meter, 1 EMF Detector and 1 Digital Surface Thermometer.
A doll which had reportedly turned itself on was placed in bedroom #2. We discovered that the doll is not only motion sensitive but also light sensitive. This could explain some of the doll’s activity, however, the doll was left in the ‘on’ position face up on the bed and the homeowners say that the doll was turned ‘off’ and face down in a doll bed when the daughter took some snapshots. So, in that case, the flash would not have triggered the doll.

Findings:    In bedroom #3, we discovered an extremely high EMF field generated from an ionic air purifier near the bed. The EMF detector went off the chart indicating a reading over 200 which can cause physical and emotional symptoms in persons who are EMF sensitive. We suggested that they stop use of the device for awhile to see if it affected the activity.

A closet door in the dining room opened several times on its own throughout the night but we found the cause to be a particular floor board which, when stepped upon, popped the poorly connecting door latch. Later in the evening, Greg had a personal experience of feeling someone or something pull the closet door back shut while he was attempting to open it. This occurred twice; however, nothing was captured on DV.
Several shadows and lights seen by various members throughout the investigation were also able to be debunked as ambient light from outside.

Conclusion:    Upon analysis of the equipment, no evidence of paranormal activity was captured.  The homeowner was contacted and we were told that the ionic purifier was turned off for awhile but was in use again and they had no further activity to report.
