Investigation of
Baldwin Cemetery 10-22-2005
Baldwin Cemetery is located in the town of Vernon Indiana. It is a very old cemetery but is still in use today. Hoosier Paranormal decided to investigate this cemetery after reading the story of Mary Smith in the book “Ghost Stories of Indiana” volume one. Her story is featured in chapter 7. The book tells of the life of Mary who met an untimely and tragic death in 1837. Supposedly you can see her sitting near her grave weeping. Investigators on this night included Robert,Shanon,Kenny, and Greg along with one guest. The temperature was crisp with no moon. Equipment used included digital cameras, digital voice recorders, EMF detector, and night vision video. At the beginning of the investigation Shanon caught something out of the corner of his eye. The object seemed to float across some tree branches. Later Kenny would experience the same thing. Baldwin Cemetery has a small gravel road running through the middle of it. The road seems to divide the old part from the new part. All investigators and their guest felt that when a person walked across the road from the new part into the old part there was a noticeable drop in temperature. Unfortunately we did not have a thermometer to verify this. Also Shanon was standing near a fresh grave and heard a whisper that sounded like a man’s voice. Findings: Not only did our investigators and guest experience some unexplained phenomena we also caught two EVP’s. The first one is faint but seems to be a male voice saying the word “nothing”. The second one is louder and you once again hear a male voice saying, “Im human by chance”. We did not capture the whisper heard by Shanon. We also never found the grave of Mary Smith but there were many unmarked graves located in the cemetery. Hoosier Paranormal believes that based on our experiences and evidence this cemetery is haunted and there are restless spirits besides Mary Smith. Hoosier Paranormal decided to do a return trip to Baldwin Cemetery in Vernon Indiana. It was a clear and warm night with the moon at 3 quarters. Investigators present were Kenny, Greg, Shanon, and Robert. Equipment used was a Sony night-cam video recorder, digital cameras and digital audio recorders. Once again this is the cemetery that was written about in the Haunted Indiana book series by Mark Mariman. The legend goes of a murdered woman by the name of Mary Smith who watches over her grave site. However we have been unsuccessful in finding her grave marker. There are many unmarked graves from the 1800’s. We had no personal experiences on this night. Findings: Video and pictures revealed nothing out of the ordinary. We did manage to capture on EVP at an unmarked grave when we left a voice recorder on the marker. This was the same location that Shanon heard the whisper during the 1st investigation. Although it is faint we believe it to say, “Help Me”. Conclusion: Once again this a wonderful and creepy place to try and capture some evidence of paranormal activity. In the future we will investigate Baldwin again. Case #8c
Baldwin Cemetery September 6th, 2010 Stop #4 on the 2010 Cemetery Run As
part of the 2010 Cemetery Run, Baldwin Cemetery was the 4th and last
stop on this night. After leaving Six Mile Cemetery at 1:05 am,
we arrived at Baldwin around 1:19 am. We unloaded our equipment
and began our final adventure in the lane where HPR caught its first
EVP. We talked a little about that first night back in 2005 and how
that EVP changed not only HPR's views on the spirit world, but our
personal lives as well. It was our first glimpse of the
afterlife. We split up again just like we did the first night
there. Shanon went back to the old section where he heard a disembodied
voice in 2005. After Shanon's arrival in the old section, Kenny
saw a light opposite end of the cemetery. After a few minutes of
watching, we found it was coming from Shanon's flashlight reflecting
from a headstone at the other end of the cemetery. We all then
proceeded back to the oldest part of the cemetery and performed an EVP
session. We stayed back in the oldest section for the remainder of the
night. At 2:15 am, we decided to call it a night. Findings No
paranormal activity was recorded on this night.
